Where are our roots? How could the valley develop to the Glottertal of today? Who and what did contribute to this development?

We set up a survey in order to inform you on the most important data of the nearly 900-year-old history of Glottertal. To all people really interested in the history of our valley, we recommend the book entitled "The Valley of Glottertal - Stories and Memories" of 1995, edited on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Glottertal. Available in the Tourist Information of Glottertal.




 
1112 first mention of Glottertal officially documented in the property register of the monastery of St. Peter
1326 first written mention of a church in Glottertal
1406 the valley is placed under the feudal law of the mighty family of Habsburg
1488 A portable altar is erected in the Barbara chapel belonging to the Glotterbad (first written documentation of a bath in Glottertal)
1567 Austria acquires the properties of Schwarzenberg and thus rules over Upper Glottertal
1576 The house of Austria acquires the bailiwick of Ohrensbach
1580 first documentation of vineyards in Glottertal
1691 During the Palatinate Succession War, troups of the French king Louis XIV loot the village.
1713 The village is plundered again by the French. destruction of the church; big famine
1806 By reorganization of the political structures in Germany, the Glottertal communities become the property of the Grand Duchy of Baden.
1853 liberation of the Glottertal farmers by abolition of the delivery of the tenth
1863 The rights to Castle Winterbach are newly divided.

extension of the Glotterbad to a rehabilitation clinic
1951 foundation of the Wine-Growers' Co-operative of Glottertal
1960 The Glotterbad becomes the property of the Baden-Württemberg Insurance Board LVA
1967
inauguration of the “Schurhammer” school by Father Georg Schurhammer, honorary citizen of the former four communities of Glottertal; the school was named after him.
1970 union of the four communities of Under Glottertal, Upper Glottertal, Ohrensbach and Föhrental to Glottertal, a village of about 3 000 inhabitants
1971 integration of the former four primary schools into the new school in Glottertal centre
1985 start of the popular TV series "Schwarzwaldklinik" that made Glottertal and the whole Black Forest known across the borders of Germany
1995 festival on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the "new" community of Glottertal
1996 extension of the Reha-Clinic Glotterbad
1998 enlargement of the main road leading through Glottertal: lots of paths and places are redesigned. In May: landslide in "Wiggisrain" and flood in Under Glottertal after heavy rainfall. Fire in the town hall. In August the Hotel Hirschen caught fire.
1999 Renovation of the facade of the church St. Blasius was finished
2001 The 2nd building section of the enlargement of the main street is finished
2002
Franziska Kunz of Glottertal is elected "Wine Princess of Baden"
2006 The main street is finished - Glottertal has obviously become nicer
